The Environmentally Friendly Odd Couple?

Back in November last year we talked about America Recycles Day, a great cause supported by Keep America Beautiful.

We all need to do more of this.

Now, it’s easy to think about the bottled water industry being right at the other end of any “Earth-friendly” scale, but some recent news is heartening and perhaps surprising.

On January 17, at the 2018 Keep America Beautiful National Conference, the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) announced that it would be sponsoring the Keep America Beautiful initiative.

America Recycles Day 2017!

November 15 marked America Recycles Day, a joint initiative with Keep America Beautiful.   Tens of thousands of people made a commitment to recycling and hundreds of events are taking place over the coming month to support this awesome cause.  

Let’s all try to reuse and recycle.
Make a Pledge to the Planet

Interested in joining in?  Why not make the America Recycles pledge to:

  • Learn.   I will find out what materials are collected for recycling in my community.
  • Act.  Within the next month, I will reduce the amount of waste I produce, I will recycle more, and I will buy products made with recycled content.

Consumers are beginning to realize just how damaging those billions of discarded plastic water bottles are to our little planet. With air pollution from manufacturing, water pollution from littering, and a nightmarish mountain of plastic bottles choking the landfills, bottled plastic water (as I call it) is bad for everybody.

In addition to the undeniable harmful effects to the world, there is the expense of buying bottled water.  The average price of a 20-ouncer is about a buck and a half. Compare that to Tyent Water, which comes in at about 6 cents a glass.

Tyent USA Looks At San Francisco’s Ban on Plastic Water Bottles

San Francisco Bans Bottled Water Sales!

In a noble, if somewhat puzzling effort, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors has voted unanimously to ban the sale of single-use bottled water smaller than 21 ounces from city property and events.  This ban also prohibits the sale of same by food trucks regulated by the city.  The city already has banned the use of plastic bags for sacking customer purchases.

 It is the hope of city officials that the banning of these plastic water bottles will induce a new mindset toward pollution reduction while helping to achieve the city’s goal to cut landfill waste down to zero by 2020.

21646253_s  When I was growing up there were two kinds of water to choose from at my house, tap and hose. Hardly the case today. Nowadays, there is flavored water, infused water, reverse osmosis water, spring water, bottled water, alkaline water, ionized alkaline water, yada yada yada. Sheesh!
