We hope you’re loving our 10-part series on how a water ionizer compares to other means of getting your drinking water.  So far, we’ve looked at a few types of machine and equipment, and today we’re examining how water ionizers stack up against the ubiquitous bottled water.

Have You Got the Bottle?

Bottled water is undeniably convenient.  Widely available to the point of saturation, to use a suitably watery metaphor; most of us are probably only a few feet away from a bottle of water at any time.

Handily, bottled water comes in lots of different guises to suit your pocket and tastes.  Mineral water, spring water…even alkaline water is available in a bottle.  Importantly, it’s also relatively …

Behind “Safe” Bottled Water

Posted by: Rhona Reid On November 10, 2016 12:00 pm

Back in 2008, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that 10 top brands of bottled water contained contaminants such as disinfectant by-products, pain medication and fertilizer residue.

Toxic Waste Near Water

Even if the beverage industry has cleaned up its act since then, there’s still the worry that plastic leaches controversial carcinogen Bisphenal A (BPA) into the bottled water.  No one is certain about the long-term effects of imbibing the estrogen-mimicking chemical, so wobbly reassurances along the lines of “it seems to be alright so far…” is pretty much the best we have.

Portable Problems?

So how about using “safe” reusable plastic bottles instead?  When Treadmill reviews commissioned environmental testing laboratory services company EmPak P&K to test 12 different types of portable plastic water …

Sorry Soda.  It’s Not You.  It’s Us.

Posted by: Rhona Reid On September 1, 2016 12:00 pm

On the 2nd August, Bloomberg.com published a report stating that bottled water is poised to outstrip soda sales, a new phenomenon which industry experts believe owes as much to the highly publicized water crisis which began (publicly at any rate) in Flint, MI., as it does to any real sea change in our health habits.

Sorry soda.  It’s all over between us.
Sorry soda.  It’s all over between us.

Just How Bad is Soda?

Even fans of soda know that there’s little to recommend it, in terms of what it contains; and in fact there’s mounting evidence that soda is actively harmful to our health.

Soft drink consumers are being exposed to an avoidable and unnecessary cancer risk from an ingredient that is

  1. The Beach/Lake/River

Find the nearest body of water that’s suitable for swimming and chilling out, and unpack the family with an assortment of balls, rackets, inflatables and more food than you think you’ll need (appetites increase, the nearer to water you get).  Take a book to while away the quiet moments, and a stack of towels to hand out to the swimmers.  If you fancy hitting the …

Too Much Green Beer Got You Down? 5 Life-Saving Hangover Fixes for St. Patrick’s Day!

There’s an episode of Family Guy where Peter Griffin visits Ireland to find his long lost family. When the plane lands, it crunches onto an Emerald Isle runway that’s knee deep in empty bottles.

It’s a comedic exaggeration of a stereotype, but it should perhaps come as no surprise that St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated around the world by consuming a little more of the green beer than is strictly necessary.

The morning after, it’s not just the beer that looks green…

Only 5 Days Until Spring!

I know! It’s exciting. Winter can be wonderful, with fires, Christmas and deeply-flavored casseroles blip-blipping away on the stove, but the promise of spring has a magic all of it’s own.

Of course, the weather might not change overnight, and there’ll still be chillier, breezy days, but generally, spring is definitely in the wings and about to make an appearance!

Spring mornings are made for enjoying!
Spring mornings are made for enjoying!

To be honest, I sometimes find it easier to realize fresh starts and good intentions now, rather than at New Year. The brighter skies, lighter evening and milder temperatures make it easier to tackle things head on than during those dark, cold January days.

These pointers are less resolutions, more life-tweaks to mark …

This is traditionally the time of year when I squint distrustfully at the calendar and see that once again, it has completely fooled me into thinking that I still had many, many months of hiding beneath layers, and only exfoliating the bits of me that are on view to the public gaze (an area which roughly extends from my eyebrows to my top lip. It’s chilly here.)
